Art like life is an open secret.

Lawrence Durrell
About This Quote

This quote from the song, “Open Secret,” is about the power of art and how it is like life. Art and life are both open secrets and in order for you to fully grasp the meaning of this quote you must understand that art and life aren’t secret at all. They are open secrets because we cannot know everything there is to know in this world. The world is vast and we only get a small glimpse into it.

As such, we can only know a small part of it and still think we know everything there is to be known. Art is like this in that we can look at art and truly understand its meaning but when we look at life we find that we can only truly understand it after it has passed by.
